LAKE STEVENS — A man was arrested in Lake Stevens on Wednesday after he reportedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend and then set his rental home on fire.

No one was injured in the fire, officials said. The incident was reported about 10:40 a.m. along Vernon Road.

The woman and her children had stopped by to pick up some items, police said. They got out before the fire spread. Flames then engulfed the house. Damage was estimated at $70,000 to the one-story house.

The suspect, who appeared to be in his 30s, was expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail, according to Lt. Robert Miner with the Lake Stevens Police Department.
