Granite Falls, Archbishop Murphy split doubleheader

EVERETT — Granite Falls controlled the first game of a doubleheader by defeating Archbishop Murphy 15-1. The Wildcats redeemed themselves in the second game by upsetting the previously unbeaten Tigers 6-4 to split the two games on Wednesday afternoon.
The Granite Falls hitters set the pace in the opener as Lauren Harding went 1-for-4 with a two run home run, and Chelsea Mynetti went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the win.
The second game was a different story.
Gemma Miller pitched a complete game for Archbishop Murphy to earn her first win of the season. Miller was assisted by the Wildcat defense which had no errors, as opposed to three in the first game.
The bats also came alive for Archbishop Murphy in the second game. Senior Marea Homes batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and two doubles, while starting pitcher Miller helped her cause by hitting 3-for-4 with a double of her own.
“We haven’t had that great of a season,” said Wildcats coach Stephanie Harmon. “But in that second game, we just came back and played with a lot of heart.”
Harmon was also complimentary of the Granite Falls style of play, saying, “Granite Falls is a great team. You basically have to play a perfect game to beat them.”
With the split Archbishop Murphy improves 2-4 in the Cascade Conference.
Even with the team’s first loss of the season, Granite Falls goes to 5-1 and remains in first place in the league standings.
