Everett: Human need grant applications available
Non-profits may apply to receive money set aside by the city for human services.
The city sets aside around $300,000 to give to organizations rendering services to people who need help in Everett. Applications are available at the city website at http://www.everettwa.org/default.aspx?ID=2004. The due date for those applications is 5 p.m. Thursday.

Everett: Planning Commission reviewing city plan
The City of Everett Planning Commission plans to hold a workshop Tuesday on an update to the section of the city’s comprehensive plan that deals with parks.
That meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at 2930 Wetmore Ave.
The planning commission also will talk about a number of other changes to the city’s comprehensive plan, including proposed zoning changes to multiple properties, including Fire Station No. 7 at Silver Lake, which was built on land that was supposed to remain park land.

Everett: Help a needy child
Drop off toys for the U.S. Marine Corp’s Toys for Tots campaign at the Silver Lake Medical Center, 12728 19th Avenue SE, Suite 300.
Toys can be dropped off at Family Medicine on the third floor until Dec. 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Edmonds: Firefighters invite public to memorial
Firefighters from Snohomish County Fire District 1 are inviting the public to a ceremony Dec. 6 to mark the arrival of a steel beam recovered from the ruins of the World Trade Center in New York City.
The beam will become the centerpiece of a future memorial at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park in downtown Edmonds.
The Dec. 6 ceremony beings at noon at Fire Station 17, 275 6th Ave. N., Edmonds.
A police motorcade is expected to escort a truck carrying the beam to the fire station from Fire District 1 Headquarters, 12425 Meridian Ave. S, Everett. The motorcade will depart at 11:30 a.m. and will travel on southbound I-5 to 220th St. SW, then head west to Edmonds.
Lake Stevens: Fire district works on strategic plan
Leaders at Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens have been working for months on a new strategic plan.
They now are getting close to finalizing it, Fire Chief Dave Lingenfelter said.
The main goals and initiatives of the plan were approved unanimously at a Nov. 17 meeting. The district also received public input at a community meeting last month.
The plan will focus on topics including internal and external relationships, technology and public education.
The plan also will help the district be flexible despite the tough economy, Lingenfelter said. That includes sharing resources and cutting back on spending.
