Free lectures detail wonders of local waters

Snohomish County’s volunteer Beach Watchers are offering another free evening lecture series about the wonders and challenges of our local waters.
“Our Puget Sound, In Depth” will starts its winter-spring run at 7 p.m. Jan. 4 in Mukilteo with “Salmon and Toxics in the Marine Environment” with Jenifer McIntyre and Julann Spomberg, both NOAA research scientists.
Other free lectures organized by Washington State University Snohomish County Extension Beach Watchers include:
Feb. 1: “Alternate Energy” with Dena Peel from the Snohomish County Public Utility District.
March 7: “Bears to Barnacles: Cool Animals of the Salish Sea” with Joe Gaydos of the SeaDoc Society.
April 4: “Puget Sound Whales” with Howard Garrett of the Orca Network.
May 2: “Brightwater Treatment Plant: Towards a Cleaner Puget Sound” with David Freed with the King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division.
Lectures, held at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the next five months, will be at Mukilteo City Hall, 11930 Cyrus Way, except for the March 7 lecture, which will be at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo.
Lectures are free, but donations are accepted at the door. No registration is required.
