South Carolina will be asked to approve another $3 million in December to train workers for the Boeing Co.
The state’s technical college system will seek $3 million next month to help cover costs of training for Boeing’s second 787 final assembly line in North Charleston, the Associated Press reports. South Carolina already approved $6 million for the training but these new funds mostly will cover equipment and materials.
The request will be made to the state’s financial oversight board on Dec. 14. That same panel also will be asked to cover deficits of $270 million in health and welfare programs, the AP reports.
Here in Washington, where Boeing’s existing 787 final assembly line is, the state helped fund a similar training center back in 2003 when the Legislature approved more than $3 billion in incentives for Boeing.
Here’s a look at how South Carolina’s training center for Boeing operates. The Herald story was published in October’s special section on Boeing Charleston.
