John Becanic landing in Vancouver?

Wonder what’s going on with former Everett coach John Becanic? Gregg Drinnan (link at left) is reporting that Becanic is about to be hired by the Vancouver Giants as an assistant coach.

Becanic played a key role in Everett’s formative years, serving as Kevin Constantine’s right-hand man as the Tips’ top assistant. When Constantine returned to the professional ranks after four seasons, Becanic assumed the head-coaching position. However, the Tips were plagued by inconsistency during Becanic’s two season at the helm, and after the 2008-09 season he was dismissed.

Becanic, who still had one season left on his contract with Everett, spent last season as an assistant with the Seattle Thunderbirds. The T-birds did not retain his services.

This would be a great situation for Becanic. He would get to work with Don Hay, who was the inspiration for his decision to transition from firefighting to coaching hockey. He would also remain within a reasonable distance as his family is still locally based.
