50 YEARS AGO (1959)
The bond issue for the Port of Everett to acquire the 72-acre shipyard site on the waterfront received 7,409 votes for and only 674 against. However, this did not add up to the 9,708 total votes needed to validate it. The port was considering other options to obtain the property.
John Gallaher, an Everett flying school operator, was appointed as the manager of Kitsap County Airport, effective Oct. 1
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Allan May wrote about the Equator, a National Register property ship on the Everett waterfront. It was now stripped of nearly everything. Owners Eldon Schalka and Dick Eitel hoped it could be restored.
Home tours were coming up in Everett and Snohomish. In Everett, the Assistance League was sponsoring its annual Everett Home Tour, which included the Rucker Mansion and Hartley Mansion. The Snohomish Historical Society’s tour featured 10 sites, including the Blackman Museum, Kikendal cabin and Waltz building.
