The Replacements — Jet customers weigh in

The buzz over the future of single aisle jets, as well as Boeing’s 777, continues this morning.
Several reports in recent weeks indicate that Airbus will re-engine its single-aisle A320, while Boeing seems to be leaning toward a complete replacement for its 737.
This morning, Bloomberg News reports that aircraft leasing guru Steven Udvar-Hazy doesn’t see a “meaningful benefit” to Airbus’ re-engining plans.
Interestingly enough, Airbus’s John Leahy tells Bloomberg that “almost all” of the airlines are behind the re-engining option while Boeing officials say that customers aren’t interested in a re-engined 737.
Meanwhile, Emirates is working with Boeing on a 777 replacement, the carrier tells Reuters. The Dubai-based carrier also implied it would add another 30 A380s to the order for 90 it already placed with Airbus, bringing its A380 total to 120. Emirates didn’t give details about the 777 replacement, which faces competition from Airbus’ A350-1000.
