50 YEARS AGO (1960)

Kenneth Thorkildsen was 2 years old today. He was pictured with his brother, Duane, 3. They were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. M.H. Thorkildsen of 1807 22nd St. Grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Thorkildsen and Mr. and Mrs. John Mikkelborg.

Pamela and Paula Sather, twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Sather, admired some of the flowers on exhibit this weekend at the annual Stillaguamish Community Fair at Stillaguamish Grange Hall. Chicken barbecues were among fair highlights.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)

The first and largest of four signs welcoming visitors to Everett was placed at 41st Street and Broadway. The cedar, paint and Plexiglas signs were made in the Everett High School workshop by eight aspiring young artists, supervised by Mary Lou Nyblod. The other signs would be located on N. Broadway, Evergreen Way and Mukilteo Boulevard.

It was official. Barring a veto in Congress, the U.S. Navy would build a major warship base in Everett, Navy Secretary John Lehman announced today. In a telephone hookup with Mayor Bill Moore, Lehman tapped Everett as the home for a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and a dozen other warships.
