Helicopters carry five hikers to safety

DARRINGTON — A Snohomish County Search and Rescue helicopter carried five hikers to safety Tuesday after two sustained minor injuries in a remote location northeast of Darrington, officials said.

The hiking group included two men and three teens, said Rebecca Hover, a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. Their names, ages and hometowns were not immediately available but they are believed to be from Snohomish County.

One of the men fell and dislocated his shoulder and another hiker strained a knee, Hover said. They met up with U.S. Forest Service workers near Mica Lake on Sunday night and the request for help was made.

“It was determined it was not a medical emergency” and didn’t require a Search and Rescue team to try to reach them by ground, Hover said.
