LAKE STEVENS — A new $4.8 million Snohomish County Public Utility District water operations building is open for business.
The building at 3301 Old Hartford Road is primarily an office for PUD workers but it also includes a service counter for developers and builders who have questions about water mains or new projects.
Residential water customers will continue to be served by the PUD’s Everett office along with electricity customers.
The 13,500-square-foot site includes additional warehouse and shop space, protected vehicle storage and a lab for testing water quality.
The building was needed to keep up with the fast-growing northern part of Snohomish County. The utility serves about 20,000 water customers in Lake Stevens, Granite Falls, Arlington and several other small districts in the area.
The new building should allow the utility to consolidate its staff and improve crew dispatch and emergency response, said PUD General Manager Steve Klein.
Water customers calling about connection fees or new water services should call a new number: 425-397-3000.
