Snohomish resident on UW dean’s list
Nicole Rover of Snohomish was recently named to the University of Washington dean’s list for winter quarter.
She is the daughter of Chuck and Cherie Rover of Snohomish.
Rover was also on the fall quarter dean’s list at University of Washington. She is a 2009 graduate of Snohomish High School.
Everett resident a Chadron State grad
Bryan Irwin of Everett earned a bachelor’s of science degree at Chadron State College on May 8 in Chadron, Neb.
Irwin was also named to the Chadron State College dean’s list for spring semester.
Snohomish grad wins Fulbright Scholarship
Madeline Courtney, a 2004 graduate of Snohomish High School, was recently awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the Museum of Natural History in Paris.
Courtney is a 2008 graduate of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
WSU student wins president’s award
Edison Kent of Everett was one of 33 undergraduate and graduate students recently honored with the 2010 President’s Award for Leadership and Service at Washington State University. The students were recognized at a dinner and program April 25.
Since 1996, the President’s Award has been awarded annually to less than 1 percent of the university’s undergraduate and graduate students.
Everett 5th-grader in patrol hall of fame
Yana Te, a fifth-grader at Forest View Elementary in Everett, was inducted into the 2010 AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame on May 7.
AAA Washington and judges from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction choose 10 outstanding patrollers in Washington for the honor.
Patrollers are judged on their leadership skills, dedication to traffic safety, citizenship and contributions to their school safety patrol.
Yana participated in discussions with leaders from her school to improve parking lot safety.
The 10 inductees were honored during an awards ceremony at Safeco Field in Seattle, followed by dinner, and a Mariners game in a private suite. AAA presented each with a plaque and a $50 check.
Local students graduate from Azusa
Danica Sprouse and Kelsey Watkins of Edmonds and Lisa Jones of Oak Harbor graduated May 8 from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif.
Kamiak senior named student of the month
Kristina Stewart, daughter of Mike and Donna Stewart, was honored by the South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club as their February student of the month, representing Kamiak High School in Mukilteo.
Kristina was presented with a plaque at a recent club meeting for her achievements in academics, athletics and music.
She has been a National Honor Society member for three years and has a 3.79 grade-point average. She was on junior varsity and varsity swim teams, and freshman and junior varsity basketball. She was awarded most inspirational player in basketball.
She is a four-year member of the Kamiak Show Band where she was voted most inspirational, best rookie and performing arts student of the month.
Other school recognition includes student of the month recognition in 2009 and a certificate of academic achievement in math in 2008.
Stewart has gone on church mission trips and serves as a traffic court juror.
After graduating next spring, she plans to attend Western Washington University.
Hillcrest students beautify property
In celebration of Earth Day, Hillcrest Elementary School students, parents and staff members volunteered in the rain April 24 to help beautify the school grounds in Lake Stevens.
ASB students held a fundraiser for the flowers and trees that were planted at the school.
Everett student recognized for math
The United States Achievement Academy recently recognized Sibani Das of Everett for excellence in mathematics.
Sibani, who attends Cascade High School in Everett, was nominated by math teacher Amy Crum. Sibani will appear in the United States Achievement Academy’s Official Yearbook.
The Academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.
Eagle cadets clean up Arlington trash
Cadets of the 61st Eagle Squadron recently cleaned up their adopted section of Highway 9, between 172nd Street NE and 204th Street NE in Arlington.
They cleared away 28 large garbage bags from in front of Arlington High School and Pioneer Elementary School. Over the past three years the cadets have removed more than 240 bags of litter.

Snohomish County students were recently named to the Seattle Pacific University winter quarter dean’s list. Students on the dean’s list have completed at least 12 credits with a 3.50 or higher GPA.
