EVERETT — A police tactical team found a man around 6 p.m. today dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, Everett police Lt. Ted Olafson said.

Police had responded to a call in the 2600 block of Chestnut Street around three hours earlier. A neighbor was concerned about the emotional state of the man living nearby, Olafson said.

When officers arrived at the home, they heard a single gunshot, Olafson said. The officers retreated to a safe distance and waited for additional support.

Police cordoned off the block and evacuated neighbors, Olafson said.

The officers tried to make contact with the man, going so far as to shoot gas into the home, but he was unresponsive, Olafson said.

Upon entering the home, they found him dead from an apparent suicide, Olafson said.

No one else was in the home, and no one else was injured in the event, Olafson said.
