MONROE – The man fatally struck by a train late on Friday was identified as Mark McClure.

McClure, 33, of Sultan, was struck by a freight train eastbound on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway line west of the Kelsey Street railroad crossing, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said. Medics rushed McClure to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police said the train engineer told them he saw a man crawl across the tracks just before the collision, but could not stop.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, Willis said.
