Dance: Snohomish Senior Center hosts New Year’s Eve dance party

People 15 years and older are invited to dance in 2010 at the Snohomish Senior Center’s New Year’s Eve dance party.

The dance is from 7:30 tonight to 12:30 a.m. Friday at the Senior Center, 506 Fourth St., Snohomish.

The music will be stopped throughout the evening and professional dance teacher Eleanor Leight will run through some basic dance steps. Modern line-dances including the macarena, the cha-cha slide and the Cupid Shuffle will be taught, as well as the stand-bys such as the tango, the waltz and the jive.

Music will be provided by Tom Lafferty and a variety of vocalists. Hors d’oeuvres, apple cider and champagne for the midnight toast are included in the $10 admission price. Beer and wine will also be sold.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Senior Center or at the door. Proceeds from the evening will help support the programs and services at the Snohomish Senior Center.

Learn: Organizations offer volunteer information presentations

Representatives from the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, United Way of Snohomish County and the Sno-Isle Library System plan to present several public presentations on volunteering with the organizations.

Attendees will learn about volunteer opportunities with RSVP, a program sponsored by Catholic Community Services of Snohomish County that helps individuals over 55 years old find places to volunteer, plus United Way of Snohomish County and the Sno-Isle Library System.

The sessions are free and anyone can attend.

Presentations begin at 3 p.m. and are expected to last one hour. The presentations are scheduled on Jan. 12 at the Mountlake Terrace Library, Jan. 14 at the Monroe Library, Jan. 19 at the Stanwood Library, Jan. 26 at the Snohomish Library, Feb. 4 at the Marysville Library and Feb. 11 at the Lynnwood Library.

Play: Register for senior center’s cribbage marathon

Registration for the cribbage marathon at the Snohomish Senior Center ends Jan. 13.

The cost for registration is $15 per person and all ages are welcome. The top three finishers will receive prizes.

Money raised will help support the programs and services provided by the Senior Center at 506 Fourth St., Snohomish.

Help: Snohomish Conservation District has openings

An elected board member and an appointed volunteer supervisor positions are available with the Snohomish Conservation District.

An election is planned from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at the district office in Lake Stevens for the elected position. Potential appointees must submit a completed application to the district by Jan. 12.

All registered voters who own or occupy land within the district, which includes Camano Island, are eligible to vote and run for office. The polling place is located at 528 91st Ave. NE, Suite A, Lake Stevens.
