EVERETT — Police and fire crews Tuesday afternoon rescued a man who jumped off the U.S. 2 trestle in an apparent attempt to take his life.

The man was sitting on a wing wall along the Snohomish River under the eastbound lanes when rescuers arrived about 3 p.m., Everett Fire Department Battalion Chief Roger Westlund said.

A rescue boat from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and an Everett police boat helped the man down and brought him to shore.

The jump was a suicide attempt, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. Medics drove the man to a hospital to be evaluated and to get help.
