Truck spills 300 gallons of asphalt sealant

EVERETT — A truck carrying a load of asphalt sealant rolled over Tuesday morning spilling as much as 300 gallons of sealant.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 and county road crews worked to clean up the mess in the 100 block of 128th Street SW, spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.

A passerby called 911 just before 9 a.m. to report the spill, Hynes said.

Firefighters used absorbent materials to contain the sealant. Some of the material went down a drain and a Vactor truck was used to get it out.

The sealant is not hazardous, Hynes said. It sinks, so officials aren’t concerned that it will spread through the storm-water drainage system.

No one was injured.
