ANACORTES — The Lakewood Cougars entered their 2A District 1 semifinal game winners of seven straight.

Unfortunately they faced an Archibishop Murphy team that had won all but one of its 21 games.

Behind the timely hitting and clutch pitching of Ty Kane, the Wildcats defeated Lakewood 6-2 Tuesday night, earning a state playoff berth and advancing to Saturday’s 2A District 1 championship game.

Kane batted 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. On the mound he struck out seven, scattering seven hits in seven innings of work.

“Tyler Kane pitched an outstanding game,” Archbishop Murphy head coach Stan Taloff said.

The Cougars were led by Jesse Etchey’s three hits. The Cougars (13-9) had won seven straight after a slow first start that saw Lakewood drop its first three to the Wildcats by a combined score of 42-9.

“They were much improved and we knew that. We knew we had our hands full,” Taloff said of his opponent.

Keanen Albright batted 3-for-4 for the Wildcats.
