Susan Knobeloch has joined Lovsted-Worthington in Bothell as director of personal lines operations. Knobeloch is an insurance industry veteran with more than 29 years of experience.

Nancy J. Avery, who joined the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier 15 years ago in Lynnwood, has been appointed postmaster of Lynnwood. She succeeds Trent McNeal, who accepted a position in the Seattle district office.

Good deeds

Periwinkle Rose, a loungewear and personal care products company in Snohomish, raised $2,765 for foster kids in Sleep Country’s fourth annual Pajama Bowl on April 19 in Tukwila. Periwinkle Rose’s donation will go to Treehouse, a Seattle-based services agency that supports foster kids. The Periwinkle Rose team included Jennifer Bush, Claire Uhler, Shawn Mercalde, Alyssa Garcia and Dorice Eaton.

Events

The construction industry is invited to a free tax workshop in Everett on Wednesday, hosted by the Washington State Department of Revenue. The workshop will highlight new legislation that replaces the resale certificate with a reseller’s permit beginning Jan. 1, 2010. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in Forest Park’s Lion Hall, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. To register, call 800-647-7706 or register online at http://dor.wa.gov. Evergreen Beauty and Barber College will host a fashion and hair show from 3 to 5 p.m. July 2 at the college, 802 SE Everett Mall Way, as a benefit for the Everett women’s shelter. The goal is to provide resources for shelter residents to join the work force. Evergreen students will provide haircuts, styling, manicures and makeup.

Some 49 people from Moss Adams, which has an Everett office, participated in the Nordstrom Beat the Bridge race on May 17 in Seattle to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The Moss Adams team raised more than $3,500. More than 10,000 people participated in the 2009 event, which raised more than $783,000.

Honors

Martial arts teacher Jonathan Bannister of Edmonds was inducted to the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame in a ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Asian Martial Arts Studies in Carbondale, Ill. Bannister was recognized by his peers for 30 years of martial arts instruction. He is president of the Pacific Northwest Budo Association, a nonprofit educational organization.

The Snohomish County PUD has received two national communications awards for its Be a Conservation Sensation campaign, launched in 2008. The International Association of Business Communicators and Utility Communicators International recognized the PUD for the campaign, which draws on real-life energy saving stories from consumers and businesses in the community.

The Future of Flight Aviation Center &Boeing Tour made the top 10 list for aviation attractions in the United States, according to Flying Compass Magazine. The top 10 attractions are, in order: The Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum &Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the Wright Brothers National Memorial &Carillon Historical Park, the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, the United States Air Force Museum, the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, the Missouri History Museum, the Kansas Aviation Museum, the United States Air Force Academy, the Pima Air and Space Museum, and the Future of Flight.
