EVERETT — A man accused of hitting a 9-year-old girl as she walked to school and driving off with her pleaded guilty Wednesday to two felonies.

Richard Fowler, 39, admitted he struck the girl and then drove away from the scene. He pleaded guilty to vehicular assault and hit-and-run injury accident in connection with Feb. 6 incident.

Fowler is scheduled to be sentenced June 23.

Fowler went to police a few hours after hitting the girl at the intersection of Pecks Drive and Cady Road in south Everett.

The girl told investigators the man stopped, then told her to get in the car so he could take her to the hospital. The girl asked to use the man’s phone to call her mother, but he told her his phone was in the trunk, according to court documents.

The girl later was dropped off at a convenience store. Fowler told the girl to go inside and ask someone to call for an ambulance.

The girl told an interview specialist she thought the man who hit her should go to jail because “everybody knows you don’t move an injured person,” prosecutors wrote.
