Arlington: Tour hospital construction

Cascade Valley Hospital plans to offer public tours of its $45 million addition beginning Sunday.

A tour of the building, still under construction, is scheduled for 1 p.m. at 220 S. Stillaguamish Ave. Other tours are set for the first Sunday of each month. People should wear closed-toe shoes.

The expansion project adds a new two-story building and remodels part of the current hospital, which was built in 1987.

Construction is expected to be done by 2010, when an open house is planned. Cascade Valley Hospital district serves north Snohomish County, from Stanwood to Darrington. Voters approved the expansion project in May 2007.

The fire department currently has 23 full-time employees. City officials expect to hire four new firefighters or medics by the end of summer, spokeswoman Christine Badger said.

Recently more than 40 candidates for the jobs braved warm weather and a grueling physical agility test to try out for the four jobs, she said.
