Arlington: Learn to be a good baby sitter

A safety certified baby-sitting course for young people ages 10 to 14 is offered by the city recreation department.

The class is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and the same time June 6 in the community room at the Arlington Boys &Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

Participants will learn how to change diapers, feed babies, handle bedtime routines, prevent accidents and respond to emergencies. Cost is $30.

Everett: Mariner dance group to perform

The annual Mariner High School dance team spring gala, an event to raise money for charity and to support the dance team, is 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the New Life Church, 6830 Highland Drive, in Everett.

There will be a spectrum of styles, such as hip-hop and ballet.

The event is free but donations are accepted. Proceeds will help fund costumes, sets and expenses for the dance team, and will benefit World Vision, an international relief organization.

Volunteer stylists will be onsite to take donations of hair for Locks of Love, which provides wigs for ailing people who have lost their hair.

Lake Stevens: Annexation meetings

The city has scheduled public information meetings for the next several months regarding the planned southwest annexation.

The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. June 9 at the Community Center, 1808 Main St. in downtown Lake Stevens.

Voters in an area south of Frontier Village and between the lake, Highway 204 and just south of 20th Street SE will have a chance to vote on the measure in November.

Public meetings are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month through October except for July, when information will be available at a booth at Aquafest on July 25 and 26.

Mill Creek: Jackson plans fundraiser

A third annual Henry M. Jackson High School Challenge Day auction is 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the school commons, 1508 136th St. SE.

Jackson and the Snohomish County Circle of Change host the auction to raise money for the Challenge Day event, which helps unify students.

Tickets for the auction are $25 and include live and silent auctions, entertainment, refreshments and dessert.

Auction items include a weekend at the Sheraton in Richmond, B.C., handcrafted beaded jewelry, Chateau Ste. Michelle winery items, gift certificates to local restaurants, and a handmade ceramic cookie jar with a dozen cookies per month for a year.
