Help the food bank

The Marysville Community Food Bank needs volunteers to sort and pick up groceries from 8 to 11 a.m. four days a week.

Volunteers are also needed from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fridays to help distribute food to clients. Anyone interested in volunteering can get more information from www.marysvillecommunityfb.com or call 360-658-1054.

Director Joyce Zeigen said they have an increase in the number of clients, and some regular volunteers are on vacation. Dedicated helpers would be much appreciated, she said.

EvCC students collecting food: Everett Community College’s Student Programs Board is collecting nonperishable food for the Volunteers of America Food Bank through May.

Donation bins are located throughout campus. Donations can also be dropped off at EvCC’s Student Activities Office in Parks Hall, Room 209. Volunteers of America serves almost 200 families per day.

Tell Island County about your community: The Board of Island County Commissioners hosts public forums to hear ideas and concerns from local communities. Speak with Commissioner Helen Price Johnson from District 1 (South and Central Whidbey), Commissioner Angie Homola from District 2 (Oak Harbor), and Commissioner John Dean from District 3 (North Whidbey and Camano Island).

The next forum is 6 p.m. Monday in the Board of County Commissioners Hearing Room, County Annex Building, 1 NE Sixth Street in Coupeville.
