The Everett Astronomical Society will offer free Astronomy Day events from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Evergreen Branch of the Everett Public Library, 9512 Evergreen Way, and The Future of Flight Museum, 8415 Paine Field Blvd., Mukilteo.

The event is part of the International Year of Astronomy, marking the 400th year since Galileo’s first use of a telescope for astronomy. It will feature exhibits and videos, and amateur astronomers will answer questions about the stars. Solar telescopes will be set up outside, weather permitting.

There also will be a public star party, weather permitting, from dusk until 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Harborview Park, 1700 W. Mukilteo Blvd., Everett.

Rummage for a cause: A garage sale is planned for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday to benefit charities.

It’s planned for 9103 46th Drive NE in Marysville.

The event’s organizer, a women’s group called Laureate Beta Xi, helps various charities.

“Each chapter has a fundraiser or volunteer activity to give back to the community,” member LaJuan Donaldson said. “Since most of our members are 60 and older, we do the garage sale, but other chapters do things like adopting a road to clean and things like that.”

Help crown the queens: Queen, It’s a New Day, a two-day event for women in transition from addiction and homelessness, could be canceled unless $4,000 is raised by today.

A $100 donation sends four women to the event, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday in Everett. Donations can be made at any Washington Mutual Bank for Recovery For Life, or call Judy Hoff at 360-631-0972.
