Golf roundup: Wie in the hunt for 1st LPGA win

KAHUKU, Hawaii — Michelle Wie put herself into contention for her first LPGA Tour victory, shooting a 2-under-par 70 in difficult conditions Friday in the second round of the season-opening SBS Open.

Making her debut as an LPGA card-carrying member, Wie used a three-birdie run to surge to the top of the leaderboard with an 8-under 136, where she was tied with Angela Stanford (71) heading into today’s final round.

Angela Park had the best round of the day with a 68 and was at 7 under, two strokes ahead of Japan’s Momoko Ueda (71).

AT&T Pebble Beach Nat’l Pro-Am

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Retief Goosen hit a 3-iron to 8 feet for an eagle on the second hole and finished 8-under 64 in the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

With short birdies on two of the last four holes, he was at 12-under 132 and had a two-shot lead over Dustin Johnson.

Champions Tour

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Jerry Pate and Bernhard Langer were in the lead at 8 under after the opening round of the Allianz Championships.

Pate had an eagle and six birdies in his round of 64, matching his best score since joining the senior circuit. Langer, who led the Champions Tour in earnings during his debut season last year, had nine birdies and a bogey in matching Pate with a 64.

Women’s Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia — Two-time defending champion Karrie Webb struggled in tough afternoon conditions and shot a 2-over 75 to fall two shots behind South Korean Lee Chang-hee (78-under 139) after the second round of the Women’s Australian Open.

Webb is tied for second with England’s Georgina Simpson, who shot a 68 for the best round of the day, and Tania Elosegui of Spain (72).

Malaysian Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Danny Chia of Malaysia shot a 7-under 65 to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the Malaysian Open.
