Kids Plant for Mom: Edmonds in Bloom hosts its annual Kids Plant for Mom’s Day event, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 7 at the Edmonds Farmer’s Market, on Bell Street north of Fifth Street. Kids can decorate a beach pail and then plant it with blooming annuals with help from volunteers for a Mother’s Day gift. A $10 donation is requested. Opening Day: The Opening Day of Boating is May 7 and the Mukilteo Yacht Club plans a day of events, including a Blessing of the Fleet at 11 a.m. at the South Marina Guest Dock 1 at the Port of Everett, followed at noon by an Under the Sea boat parade that will head over to the Mukilteo Lighthouse and back (weather permitting). Boat checks: The Everett Sail and Power Squadron offers free vessel safety checks by qualified examiners for local recreational boaters. “Make sure your boat is safely equipped and you are ready for the season.” Safety checks are set for May 7 and 21 at the Port of Everett’s South marina. Balloon-O-Grams: Nana’s Foundation, which provides toiletries to needy populations, will deliver Mother’s Day balloon-o-grams on May 7 for a $20 donation (or premium delivery for an additional $10). Bike work parties: Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop holds work parties 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays to prepare for the annual Kids Bike Swap on June 12. The nonprofit is at 2531 Broadway, Everett. Toiletry drive: The YWCA is collecting donations of hygiene supplies in preparation for this year’s Project Homeless Connect. Raffle for park: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8870 holds a raffle to raise money to help finish the Edmonds Veteran Plaza. Two pieces of original artwork by Post member and Fallen Heroes artist Michael Reagan will be raffled. Both feature current and former Seahawks players and coaches, who also autographed the works. Work clothing, YWCA: The YWCA Working Women’s Wardrobe program is in need of personal care and feminine hygiene products and also large department store clothing bags. Donate clothing: Faith Lutheran Church, 6708 Cady Road in Everett, seeks help with its Community Meals program through donations of gently used or new cold-weather clothing, including boots, shoes, sweaters, coats, gloves and warm socks for both kids and adults. Kid clothes, Lynnwood: Clothes For Kids, a Lynnwood nonprofit that provides wardrobes for low-income families, seeks volunteers to help sort clothes, stock shelves, assist shoppers and more. Enhance Fitness: Group Health Medicare members are invited to take a low-impact aerobics class for free. The class, for ages 50 and older, runs 8:45-9:45 a.m. weekdays in five-week sessions at the Carl Gipson Senior Center, 3025 Lombard Ave. in Everett. No experience needed.
