Lake Stevens triathlon Sunday

Athletes from all over the world will compete for $30,000 in prize money at the 2008 Lake Stevens Ironman 70.3 World Qualifier Triathlon.

The Triathlon starts at 6 a.m. Sunday at the public boat launch in downtown Lake Stevens.

There is expected to be very limited parking this weekend at the North Cove Boat Launch in Lake Stevens because of the Iron Man Triathlon. The boat launch will be closed from 4 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Giant barbecue benefits food bank

The world’s largest touring grill, which can barbecue up to 2,500 hot dogs at a time, is set to be in Snohomish today.

Johnsonville’s 45-foot-long Big Taste Grill serves visitors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Snohomish TopP Food &Drug at 1301 Ave. D.

Brats will be sold for $2 each, with proceeds going to the Snohomish Community Food Bank.

Darrington looking for ideas on future

The Darrington Town Council wants to know what hopes and visions people have for the future of the town. The council is asking residents write down their thoughts and submit them by July 15. The council plans to use the comments to formulate its own vision for the community.

Hospice volunteers needed in Everett

Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County offers a free information session on its volunteer opportunities from 6 to 8 p.m. July 16 at 2731 Wetmore Ave., Suite 500, Everett.

Bike sale benefits Sharing Wheels

Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop offers a summer fundraiser bicycle sale.

There will be road bikes, mountain bikes and kids bikes sold from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2531 Broadway in Everett.

The group will not accept bicycle donations that day. The next bike donation day will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 13.
