LYNNWOOD – Smoldering ashes from a backyard barbecue likely are to blame for a fire early this morning that caused an estimated $85,000 damage and displaced two people, fire officials said.
The blaze started around 3 a.m. in a rental home in the 1900 block of 189th Street SW, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
Noise from the fire woke up the two men who lived in the home. They were able to get out safely, Hynes said.
No one was hurt.
Investigators believe the fire started after one of the men who lived in the home disposed of ashes from a grill on the back porch, she said.
The men apparently do not have insurance, Hynes said. The Red Cross is providing assistance.
