50 years ago (1958)

Burnett Bros. Jewelers, which had been located in Everett for 35 years, held a grand opening to celebrate the complete remodeling of their store at 1620 Hewitt Ave. Owners C.D. and B.J. Burnett said the change was only physical and there would be no change in the policy of the store and that same fine service would be extended to all customers.

Center stripes, crosswalk lines, parking stripes and every other type of street marking in town weren’t just part of the street that occurred when the asphalt was laid. They were painted by three hardworking members of the Everett Safety Department. The trio consisted of Bill Daily, Harry Hansen and Howard Rooney.

25 years ago (1983)

Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Paul Langner of Sultan had assumed command of the Coast Guard cutter Point Countess based at Port Angeles. The 83-foot cutter carried a crew of eight.

Five area high-school musicians were taking part in a summer band and jazz program at Central Washington University at Ellensburg. They were Greg Mortneson of Everett; Danen Barnhart of Stanwood, who was a student at Marysville-Pilchuck High School; and Simon Lawrie, Mike Tuttle and Matt Estes of Bothell High School.
