Crews clean up oil spilled at wetland in south King County

KENT. — As crews continue to clean up an oil spill at a wetland in south King County, state regulators are trying to determine who is responsible.

Ecology Department spokesman Larry Altose says it appears at least 300 gallons of oil were likely dumped on private wetland in a commercial area of Kent.

Crews on Monday used small vacuums and other equipment to begin cleaning up the spill, which was discovered over the weekend.

KING-TV in Seattle reports that the oil covered about 1.5 acres in a 24-acre privately owned wetland. So far, it appears that birds haven’t been affected by the oil.

Altose says cleanup could take several days.
