Local Briefly: Firehouse in Bothell opens with alarm bell

BOTHELL — The alarm sounded at Station 73 near Bear Creek and Canyon Park Thursday morning, the ceremonial signal that the newly rebuilt firehouse is open.

Officials from Snohomish County Fire District 7 saluted the flag and uncoupled a fire hose during a ceremony this morning, Assistant Chief Eric Andrews said.

The station was rebuilt to accommodate a full-time engine company and medic unit, he said. Previously, the station was staffed by volunteers.

There are seven fire stations in the district. Fire Station 75, near Lost Lake, is scheduled to be dedicated in July, Andrews said.

An open house for Station 73, at 22225 45th Ave. SE, is scheduled for Saturday.

Everett: Sheriff’s sergeant disciplined

A Snohomish County sheriff’s sergeant has been disciplined for his role in an alleged assault from February 2007.

On June 6, Vince Linnell, 42, a 17-year veteran, was demoted to deputy sheriff and suspended for 30 days without pay, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

An internal investigation by the sheriff’s office determined that Linnell acted inappropriately at the scene of an accident involving a driver who collided with law officers riding police motorcycles, causing injuries.

The case also was forwarded to Snohomish County prosecutors who, in turn, forwarded the case to prosecutors in King County for a charging decision.
