Share your ideas on park plan for land near Bothell

Published 10:49 pm Monday, April 21, 2008

Snohomish County is buying 12.7 acres of new parkland east of Bothell and wants comments on how the park should be developed.

A public meeting is planned tonight to hear what park facilities should be built on the land.

The land is expected to cost $2.7 million and is south of 228th Street SE on 45th Avenue SE.

The property is mostly vacant and rural, tucked between dense suburban housing developments and the sensitive Bear Creek basin.

A mix of improvements are possible on the land.

The county is “heading toward master planning and hopefully development in the next two to three years,” Dianne Bailey of the county parks department told the County Council.

The county put the park together by buying land from the Branch family and is working on buying a second chunk of land, about 4 acres, owned by the Mercer Island-based North Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church of America.

The county is buying the properties with some of the $70 million paid by King County to offset impacts from the $1.8 billion Brightwater sewage treatment plant, under construction between Highway 9 and Highway 522.
