Captain of fishing boat that sank in Alaska was from Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD – The captain of a fishing boat that sank Sunday in Alaska, and one of four crew members to die, was Eric Peter Jacobsen, 65, of Lynnwood.

The 184-foot Alaska Ranger began to take on water early Sunday, Coast Guard officials said.

Crew members donned survival suits and took to life boat. In addition to the four dead, 47 crew members were rescued and a search resumed today for a missing crewman, the Coast Guard said.

The Alaska Ranger was based out of Seattle and is owned by the Fishing Company of Alaska, also of Seattle.

Jacobsen is believed to be the only Snohomish County man to have died in the incident.

The other men who perished include a Seattle man and a San Diego man. The fourth man’s hometown hasn’t been announced.

It’s not yet known was caused the Alaska Ranger to take on water. The ship sank about 120 miles west of Dutch Harbor.
