Edmonds

Tapestry work on display at center

An artist’s collection of tapestries are scheduled to be on display at the Frances Anderson Center through the end of July.

The tapestry exhibit can be viewed from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The center is at 700 Main St.

The artist, Gloria Mae Campbell, moved to the Pacific Northwest during the 1960s. She owns a weaving studio and incorporates nature themes into much of her work.

Everett

Skate park rolls forward

The Everett City Council is scheduled to begin looking for a contractor to build the city’s second skateboarding park Thursday.

A Seattle skate-park design company was previously hired to make plans for a street-style park near Wiggums Hollow Park in north Everett.

The project calls for a lighted, fenced-in skating area; a small parking lot; a drinking fountain; sidewalks; and benches, including one resembling a giant skateboard.

Early plans called for a camera, which would stream live video of the park on the city’s Web site.

City to pick bus station contractor

A year after construction was to begin, Everett is ready to select a construction company to build College Station, a new bus station next to Everett Community College.

The City Council is scheduled on today to vote on award a $2.6 million grant to Pellco Construction Inc. of Mountlake Terrace.

Designs call for enough room for 10 buses, six of which could park off the street. Plans also call for open space, a small building with a restroom and a drivers’ lounge. Four bus routes currently end at the college, but more could be added with the new transit center.

The new transit center is expected to dovetail with the campus’ $130 million expansion.

Island County

Sea grass program at Cama Beach

A nature program titled “Amazing Sea Grass” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Cama Beach State Park on Camano Island.

The scheduled speaker is Sharon Riggs, environmental specialist with Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve on the Skagit River.

She plans to teach participants about a native sea grass called Zostera marina and a nonnative salt marsh grass called Spartina. The presentation is expected to touch on biology, ecology and history.

The program is sponsored by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and Friends of Camano Island Parks.

Lake Stevens

Four free spots for camp available

The Lake Stevens Family Center has four free spots available for its Summer Fun Camp.

The nonprofit center has received community donations to cover the cost of the four slots in the camp. Any student entering sixth through 10th grades in the fall is eligible.

The Summer Fun Camp includes trips to the Seattle Aquarium, the Woodland Park Zoo, the Museum of Flight and the Seattle Art Museum and tours of The Herald, Microsoft and Talking Rain. Activities include bowling, swimming, a cruise and crafts.

Lynnwood

Dancing, play planned at park

Enjoy both break dancing and Shakespeare this month at the Lynndale Park Ampitheater.

The Breaking Point Dance Company is scheduled to perform at noon July 18 at the park at 18927 72nd Ave. W. Then, at 7 p.m., the company Wooden O Theatre is planning to present the comedy “The Merry Wives of Windsor” as part of its Shakespeare in the Park series.

A repeat performance of the play is scheduled to be held at 7 p.m. July 19 at the park. Call the Lynnwood Recreation Center at 425-771-4030.

Senior group to perform skits

The Ken Baxter Senior Community Center Drama Group is scheduled to perform skits at a meeting of the AARP today.

News discussion group to meet

People are invited to discuss events and issues in the news during a meeting planned for the Mountlake Terrace Library.

Library planning Harry Potter party

A party to celebrate the seventh and final installment of the Harry Potter series is planned at the Mukilteo Library.

The event is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. July 20 at the library at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. The widely anticipated “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” is scheduled to be released at 12:01 a.m. July 21.

The library party is expected to feature games, crafts and free food, as well as costume and trivia contests. Winners receive a copy of J.K. Rowling’s new book.
