Close to school: Lives just down the street from Mariner and has lived in the same home her entire life.
Good challenges: Schedule includes pre-calculus, psychology, physics, third-year French and college-level advanced placement courses in U.S. history and English.
Hard worker: Spends up to three hours a day on homework. Often meets with friends in the library after school and has a desk facing a wall in her room at home so she doesn’t get distracted.
Career goal: To become a pediatrician although has also considered teaching.
Helping out: Is a regional officer for the International Organization of Rainbow Girls, which does a variety of community service projects. Spent a week last summer as a counselor at camp in Whatcom County with children who are burn victims; organization raised more than $30,000 last year to help out.
Fun, too: Likes the friendships she’s made with local Rainbow Girls’ chapter, watching peers of different ages grow and mature. “My mom was in it when she was younger. My sister was in it. They kind of said I had to be, but I grew to like it a lot.”
Favorite book: “The World According to Garp” by John Irving.
Off time: “I just like to hang out with friends and family.”
College shopping: Has already visited University of Washington and Pacific Lutheran University.
Pets: Two cats: Henry, who drools, and Spiffy, who doesn’t (but does get dirty while playing outside).
Musical taste: Just about anything but country music. Tends to like older rock, such as AC/DC and Van Halen.
Summer plans: An 11-day school trip to France and Italy. Says it should be a great adventure. “The furthest east I’ve been is Boise, Idaho.”
Good fit: Attends Mariner’s International Communications Academics Technologies academy, better known as ICAT. Likes the small school-within-a-school structure. “I like being able to see the same people over time. This is my third year with French teacher and my second year with my English teacher. We get to know each other better.”
