Arlington
Eight tanks found beneath street
Contractors digging into Olympic Avenue found eight storage tanks underground last week. City officials had feared as many as 21 oil tanks could be hiding beneath the downtown street.
Rivers Edge Services of Kent is scheduled to begin removing the tanks today. The removal is part of a two-phase project to reconstruct Olympic Avenue.
Brier
Join police for a night out Tuesday
The Brier Police Department’s National Night Out event is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brier City Park, 2901 228th St. SW.
Balloons, prizes, giveaways, a maze, free hot dogs, live music, crime prevention information and more are planned.

See ‘Pinocchio’ on outdoor stage
The Last Leaf Children’s Theatre is scheduled to stage its production of “Pinocchio and the Purple Shoes” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Frances Anderson Center Amphitheater, 700 Main St.
Last Leaf Theatre Productions is in its seventh season of producing shows for young audiences. All programs are interactive and include a question-and-answer and autograph session following the performance.

Movie night for kids at Silver Lake
Kids of all ages are invited to watch a movie under the stars at 7 p.m. Friday in Thornton A. Sullivan Park at Silver Lake.
“Goonies” will be featured, and gymnastics and dance teams from Snohomish County will perform before the show.

Island County
Craft classes on Camano Island
The Camano Senior and Community Center will offer craft classes beginning Wednesday. The classes will continue each Wednesday for four weeks.
Classes geared toward children ages 5 to 12 will be offered from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Classes for those 12 through adult are scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Participants will learn how to decorate frames with shells, make a recycled leather design, work with driftwood and create a mobile.
The fee for the class is $30 and includes all materials.
Lake Stevens
Planning group meets Wednesday
The Lake Stevens Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Senior and Community Center, 1808 Main St.
Scheduled for discussion is the review of a new shop and office building.
Marysville
Soccer games kick off Thursday
The 12th Annual Strawberry Classic soccer tournament begins Thursday night and continues through Sunday at the soccer fields on 152nd Street NE .
The event is sponsored by the Marysville Youth Soccer Club.
Event organizers are anticipating the largest turnout ever. About 130 teams are expected to participate.

Kids can take a safari at the library
Kids ages 5 through 11 can learn about African wildlife and make crafts Wednesday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

Snohomish County
Somers joins state forest board
Snohomish County Councilman Dave Somers of Monroe has been appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to the state Forest Practices Board.
The Forest Practices Board establishes standards for forest practices and provides procedures for the voluntary development of resource management plans.
Somers will serve from July 14 through Dec. 31. He is the chairman of the Snohomish County Council land use and planning committee.
He previously served on the Snohomish County boundary review board and the shorelines hearings board.
Stanwood
Community fair coming Friday
The 75th annual Stanwood Camano Community Fair kicks off Friday with food, entertainment, livestock and games. The fair runs through Sunday at the Stillaguamish Fairgrounds just outside Stanwood.
Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and children 5 to 12, and free for kids younger than 5.
