Monroe’s new affordable housing opens

The nonprofit group Housing Hope has scheduled a grand opening for the Monroe Family Village, 47 apartments that were built on West Main Street to serve homeless and low-income families.

Tours are set to take place at noon with speakers to begin at 12:45 on Friday at 17428 W. Main St.

The site includes a common area that will offer social services, adult life-skills classes and community meetings. Housing Hope aims to curb homelessness by helping residents increase life and employment skills. It also tries to help their children to succeed in school.

Snohomish wants input on pool site: The city is looking for volunteers to work on plans for the Hal Moe Pool site and the surrounding area.

A committee is expected to meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings, starting in early 2016 and continuing through 2018.

Anyone who is interested should complete an application on the city website by Nov. 30.

Snohomish County highlights tourist activities: A new brochure highlighting attractions along rural roads in the Skykomish Valley is available online and in print.

It features 14 spots along U.S. 2, including the Western Heritage Center in Monroe, the tiny Wayside Chapel west of Sultan and the Heybrook Ridge Lookout near Index. It also includes events and festivals.
