Arlington

Motor scooters on council agenda

Regulating motorized scooters will be discussed by the City Council tonight.

The council meets at 7 p.m. at the Community Youth Center, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

Also on the agenda are the I-5 and Highway 531 overpass expansion project, the six-year transportation improvement plan, a construction bid for the skate park, a noise provision added to city code and an agreement with the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force. There also will be a public hearing on the Turning Point Community Church land-use code amendment.

At a 6 p.m. workshop, Fire Chief Mike Ganz will discuss the upcoming Emergency Medical Services levy election.

Edmonds

Civil Service panel meets

The Edmonds Civil Service Commission will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Public Safety Complex, 250 Fifth Ave. N.

Approval of the police lateral list and minutes from the May 5 meeting are on the agenda.

Everett

Fire department makes promotions

The fire department recently announced several promotions.

The changes are a result of the retirement of senior battalion chief Ron Larsen, who served the department for 38 years.

Ed Oas was promoted to assistant chief of operations. Assistant Chief Steve Parker will move into the vacant battalion chief spot created by Oas’ promotion.

The other promotions are Dave Moses to battalion chief, Richard Hanson to fire captain and Gordon Mosteller to firefighter-driver.

Island County

Commissioners to meet today

The Island County commissioners will discuss tobacco-prevention funding and an adopt-a-road litter control program today.

The public meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. A roundtable meeting with elected officials and department heads starts at 11 a.m.

The meeting is in commissioners hearing room at the county annex building, 1 NE Sixth St. in Coupeville.

At 2 p.m. today, there also will be a public hearing on the Edgewater Drive right of way. That meeting will be at the Camano Mulitipurpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive on Camano Island.

Lynnwood

City Center is work session topic

The Lynnwood City Council will hold a special work session at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the City Council Chambers, 19100 44th Ave. W.

The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the financing strategy for the City Center Plan. An executive session may be called if needed. For more information, call 425-775-1971.

Dollar-a-Month Club at center

East County Senior Center encourages people to join its Dollar-a-Month Club. Each club member donates a dollar a month, which helps the center send birthday cards to its members and flowers to its members in the hospital.

Snohomish County

Counties discuss death inquests

The Snohomish County Council has approved an agreement that would give the county medical examiner the authority to investigate deaths when people are fatally injured here, but die in King County hospitals.

The council approved the agreement Wednesday.

If the King County Council also approves the agreement, it would end debate about which county could call an inquest under those circumstances.

Snohomish County Medical Examiner Norm Thiersch has said the agreement would only be needed in a handful of cases, mainly when police suspect a crime has been committed.

Hospice program seeks volunteers

Evergreen Hospice Services is looking for people to become trained volunteers.

Hospice helps terminally ill patients and their families in Snohomish County and elsewhere.

Membership drive for seniors

The Snohomish Senior Center membership drive continues through its annual barbecue Aug. 10 at Hill Park.

The center at 171 Cypress Ave. is a place to socialize with peers, participate in learning experiences and enjoy luncheons, activities, health services, trips and speakers.

Members receive discounts on all activities, including trips. Included in the $20 annual dues is the center’s monthly newsletter.

Design board cancels meetings

The Snohomish Design Review Board meeting scheduled for July 14 has been canceled.

The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at City Hall, 116 Union Ave.

Stanwood

School budget discussion set

The Stanwood-Camano School District board will meet at noon today in the board room, 9405 271st St. NW.

Also, the board will have a study session at 11 a.m. to discuss the 2004-05 budget.
