Seems Like Yesterday

Whereas the highway between Everett and Marysville under construction was a matter of building a new road and bridges adjacent to the present road, the section to the north was all new roadway bypassing Marysville. Recently completed were twin bridges over Quilceda Creek.

To raise funds for the Boy Scout troop it sponsored, Silver Lake PTA staged a carnival at the Market Coverage plant at Silver Lake. A host of booths and entertainment were ready. Helping prepare the site were Bryan Reece, Richard Hanning, Clark Beaver, Mike Harris, Gary Wester and Ron Thornberry.

Pauline Phillips, better known as Abigail Van Buren or "Dear Abby," posed for a photograph on California Street holding a dog. The famous advice columnist was in town speaking in the Everett Town Hall Lecture Series.

Ronald Rardin of Olympia was named the Port of Everett’s first director of trade and economic development. Port general manager John Belford said Rardin’s primary duty would be to attract new cargo to the port.
