Backpacks needed in Granite Falls
The Granite Falls Family Support Center is collecting donations of new backpacks for the Back to School Fair on Thursday. People can drop off backpacks at the support center, 9424 Portage Ave., up until Thursday morning. For more information about donating or about the Back to School Fair, call 360-386-9282.
Snohomish mulls budget: Snohomish is holding a budget workshop at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Snohomish School District administration office, 1601 Ave. D.
Among the agenda items that are expected to affect the 2016 budget is the voters deciding against the creation of a metropolitan parks taxing district on the Aug. 4 primary election ballot.
City Manager Larry Bauman estimated that the proposed tax increase could have brought in up to $834,000 annually for the city’s parks.
Help manage historical reserve: The Island County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants to serve on the Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve Trust Board. The term for the seat, representing Island County, runs through Oct. 1, 2017. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21.
