DARRINGTON — A lost hiker in the Glacier Peak Wilderness was brought to safety Tuesday morning.

The man, 27, was reported missing and overdue from a hike by his family about 1 p.m. Monday, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s Search and Rescue team launched its helicopter and sent ground crews to look. They found climbers and hikers who provided additional information about the missing man, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

The man was found by rescuers on horseback about 8:30 a.m. in the area of the Pacific Crest Trail.

Information from the climbers and hikers was vital to the rescue, Sgt. Danny Wikstrom said.

“Without their assistance, this could have had a tragic outcome,” he said.
