Edmonds road closed

Work is under way and expected to continue into early September on a stormwater project in the southwest part of Edmonds. The work requires the closure of 228th Street between 105th and 106th avenues, near Sherwood Elementary.

The $492,000 project, funded in part by the state Department of Ecology, will replace the stormwater infrastructure serving two residential streets. The current system has failing pipes that are routed through private property.

The new system will include pipes, catch basins and manholes in the streets to collect runoff, which then will be routed through water quality equipment before being released to a stormwater infiltration gallery under 228th Street.

Fun in Brier: The 15th annual Brier SeaScare parade and festival is set for Aug. 10. Parade participants are needed in categories that include sea creatures, pirates and anything nautical, along with anyone who wants to show off a classic car. Also encouraged are handmade versions of the “Jolly Roger” pirate flag. There will be prizes, food and entertainment. People can register at seascare.com. Parade check-in starts at 6 p.m., with the parade set to start at 7. A food drive and book sale also are planned.

In connection with SeaScare, the Brier Library plans a “Kid-Scare” event for 11 a.m. Aug. 5. There will be crafts, cookies and juice, plus a visit from “a real SeaScare pirate.”
