Go fish: The Ballinger Park fishing pier in Mountlake Terrace opened again last week after being closed for repairs. The 40-year-old pier has new decking and railing. A new pier is planned in the years ahead, likely north of the current location.

Serve rural Arlington: Snohomish County Fire District 21, also called Arlington Rural, is seeking a fire commissioner to serve for the rest of 2017. The position will be appointed. Then, it is up for election in November for the 2018-2021 term. District 21 serves about 8,200 people in areas including Arlington Heights, Trafton, Jim Creek, and Jordan and Burn roads.
