Nominate: Program honors outstanding teens
The Lynnwood Rotary Club this year celebrates its 25th annual Youth Challenge Awards program. The program is open to all Snohomish County students in grades 7-12.
Awards are given for leadership, courage, creativity and community service. There also is a group award, and one graduating senior will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship.
Know an outstanding teen who has made an impact? The nomination deadline is April 21. Awards will be presented at a May 18 ceremony.

Greet: Welcome the whales in Langley
A Welcome the Whales Festival runs Saturday and Sunday in Langley to honor and celebrate the arrival of gray whales to Whidbey Island. The festival is sponsored by Orca Network and the Langley Chamber of Commerce. There will be kids activities, including costume making, at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Langley United Methodist Church, 301 Anthes Ave. A “Whale and Critter” parade winds through downtown starting at 1:30 p.m. The Langley Whale Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at 115 Anthes Ave., with activities and displays. Afternoon presentations, a fundraising whale-watching cruise, film showings, and a beach cleanup round out the weekend’s events.

Cruise: Boaters sought for opening day parade
The Mukilteo Yacht Club celebrates the Opening Day of Boating with a variety of activities May 6, including a boat parade. This year’s theme is “Marine Myths and Legends.” Local boaters are invited to participate in the parade. A panel of judges will award prizes for best costumes, best boat decorations and more. Small, medium and large power boats ad sailboats are all welcome. Register for the parade with Jeremy Court or Deryn Doverty at myc@mukilteoyachtclub.com or 425-931-3384.
The day’s festivities will include a blessing of the fleet and related activities, all at the Port of Everett.

Sip: Tea with fashion in Stanwood
The Stanwood Area Historical Society plans its annual Spring Tea and Vintage Fashion Exhibit, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. April 29 at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Hall. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased by April 21 to reserve a seat. The tea will honor some of Stanwood’s leading business women: Carrie Wang, who owned Huntington’s Corner; Belle Keitel, of Keitel Transportation; and Anna Hanson Stubb, who ran the Mercantile for 30 years. Guests are encouraged to share their own memories. An updated “Waistlines and Hemlines” exhibit features a display of uniforms and stories of local veterans. There will be a raffle, hat sale, silent auction and prizes for the best hat and vintage outfit.
