Help in Monroe
The city of Monroe is looking for volunteers for ongoing programs and one-time events. Make friends and learn about local government. There also are openings on the planning commission, ethics board and salary commission. For more information, call Pamela Baker at 360-863-4524.
Learn to fish: A free kids fishing day runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Lake Tye Park in Monroe. Participants must be 12 or younger.
Say hello: The Brier Library has welcomed a new branch manager, Dawn Rutherford. She was introduced at the City Council meeting March 28.
New face: There’s a change on the Brier City Council. Councilman Marc Olson resigned, and his last day in the position was March 31. Robert Thorpe was appointed at the April 11 meeting.
Get prepared: Snohomish County Fire District 1 plans a disaster preparedness workshop for Saturday. Drop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Silver Firs Fire Station, 13611 Puget Park Drive, Everett.
Free bike helmets: Kaiser Permanente and Team Thrive, a professional women’s cycling team, hope to give away 10,000 helmets to kids in the Puget Sound area. Families can stop by the YMCA locations in Mill Creek, Mukilteo and Everett between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. April 29.
Tree planting: A tree planting is scheduled for Saturday at Strawberry Fields Park in Marysville. Volunteers welcome. RSVP by calling 360-363-8406.
