Man allegedly planned murder, then suicide in Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD — A 21-year-old man who was arrested Saturday in Lynnwood reportedly planned to shoot his stepfather before taking his own life.

He allegedly pointed an assault rifle at his stepfather’s head, but didn’t pull the trigger.

The man was angry with his stepfather, who has been accused of physically abusing his wife, according to a probable cause affidavit released Monday.

The man borrowed his roommate’s assault rifle and walked to his parents’ apartment along 54th Place West around 6 p.m., according to a court papers. He pounded on the door and yelled at his stepfather to open up.

Police said the man aimed the gun, but then started shaking.

His mother took away the loaded rifle and told her son to go home. She later told officers her son is living with autism, according to court papers.

The man has been booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of attempted domestic violence murder.
