LAKE STEVENS — Deputies with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office investigated an overnight head-on collision at the intersection of South Machias Road and Virginia Street that resulted in both drivers being transported to the hospital.

The collision between a car and a pickup truck was reported Tuesday just before midnight.

A 41-year-old Snohomish man in the pickup is suspected of driving under the influence, said Shari Ireton, sheriff’s office spokeswoman. He had what are believed to be serious spinal injuries.

The other driver, a 20-year-old woman, suffered two broken legs. Collision detectives were called to the scene.
