Happy Days are here again
The Happy Days potluck and auction is set for noon Saturday at the Darrington Community Center, 570 Sauk Ave. The event helps raise money to cover the costs of memorial dinners, where volunteers pull together meals to feed grieving families at funerals held in town. Proceeds also will aid the Community Center, where those meals often are prepared.
“It’s a way to get together without having to have a death for it to happen,” said James Cabe, whose mother, Janet, helps coordinate the memorial dinners.
Last year, instead of the annual potluck and auction, Janet Cabe and other memorial dinner cooks were preparing meals for the emergency crews and volunteers who responded to the deadly Oso mudslide.
Happy Days organizers look forward this year to children’s laughter and friendly conversations that often carry into the evening. “Everyone is welcome,” James Cabe said.
