Next forum for mayor’s race
Local faith leaders plan the next candidate forum for the Everett mayor’s race. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 215 Mukilteo Blvd. The forum will focus on issues related to homelessness and poverty.

Meet fellow widows, widowers
The Widows Project, a local nonprofit social group, plans a meet-and-greet at the July 22 AquaSox game. The group aims to connect widows and widowers and provide them resources. Discounted tickets are available, as well as refreshments and snacks.
Game time is 7:05 p.m. Meet-and-greet starts at 6 p.m.

Camp for kids affected by cancer
Camp Sparkle, from Cancer Pathways, is for children ages 6 to 12 affected by cancer — either themselves or a family member. The five days of themed activities and making friends comes to Everett, July 24 to 28 at Legion Hall, 145 Alverson Blvd. Free, but registration is required.

MEETING
Learn about fire levy
Snohomish County Fire District 17 in Granite Falls is considering seeking a levy lid lift on the general election ballot in November. The measure would ask voters to approve a tax increase to support emergency medical services.
A public hearing on the topic is set for 7 p.m. July 27 at the downtown fire station. The board of commissioners is expected to vote after the hearing on whether to proceed.

Park frog sculpture named
The granite frog sculpture that was donated by Arlington Arts Council for Haller Park has been named Sir Hops Alot by Lily White, 6, of Arlington. There were more than 100 entries in the naming contest.
Future of Beech Road
The city of Lynnwood hopes to rework Beech Road to create a better link from Alderwood Mall Parkway to Maple Road. Beech Road could help relieve congestion and access around the Alderwood mall. Someday, that could mean two lanes as well as turn lanes and sidewalks. The City Council this month is scheduled to review a proposed contract with a consultant on the project.

WAYS TO HELP
Help kids at YMCA
The YMCA’s Casino Road Community Center is looking for volunteers to help with a new after-school program. “Grow 60” aims to provide lessons on outdoor skills and experiences, arts, STEM and healthy cooking. Volunteers should be willing to commit to one hour a week from mid-September to mid-November.
