Arlington: Emergency response class planned
The Arlington Fire Department plans to host a Community Emergency Response Team training class this fall. The weekly class starts Sept. 29 and goes through Nov. 10.
The first class is at 6:30 p.m. at 17014 59th Ave. NE in Arlington. People can register until Sept. 26.

Library holds teen cooking competition
Arlington youth librarian Jocelyn Redel is hosting a series for teens based on the popular TV series “Chopped.” Teens will be challenged to use ordinary ingredients to create edible masterpieces and amaze the judges.
The first competition is set for 3 p.m. Thursday at the library, 135 N. Washington St.

Darrington: Back to School barbecue
The annual Back to School community barbecue starts at 5 p.m. at the Darrington Community Center. This is a chance to see the new gym floor.

Granite Falls: School district wins grant
The Granite Falls School District recently was awarded a $98,000 Urgent Repair Grant from the Legislature.
The money for a water pipe replacement was received through a program for nonrecurring costs associated with necessary school facility repairs and renovations related to health and safety needs.
The school district is one of 62 in the state that received a grant under the program. About $5 million will be given to districts for 73 capital construction work projects.
Requests totaling more than $12 million came from 108 school districts throughout the state.
Marysville: Have coffee with the mayor
Marysville residents can meet with Mayor Jon Nehring for coffee Sept. 29.
The coffee klatsch is set from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Marysville YMCA Teen Development Center, 6420 60th Drive NE.

Tulalip: Candidates speak at forum
Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon and his opponent in the upcoming election, Mike Hope, are scheduled to face off at a Sept. 30 Greater Marysville-Tulalip Chamber of Commerce breakfast forum.
The event’s organizers anticipate lively responses to a moderator’s questions. The candidates also get to ask their own questions of each other.
The election is Nov. 8. Reardon, a Democrat from Everett, is trying for a third term in office. Hope, a Republican who lives in Lake Stevens, is in his second two-year term in the state House.

Doors open at 7 a.m. for networking and the program lasts from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
